The Leica ICR70 – Adopting New Technology for Ashmor Group

Founded by Ashley Moran in 2005, Ashmor Group provide professional plumbing servicing and maintenance.

Ashmor’s specialities include large scale, multi-location renovation and maintenance works, with services ranging from plumbing to gas fitting, LPG, Drainage and Environmental compliance. Ashmor consistently provide a quality, professional and reliable service with impeccable attention to detail.

As time progressed and the need to remain relevant in a very competitive industry became more important by the day, Ashmor saw the need to expand their capabilities and improve their workflows.

Once he recognised this need, as any good company director would do, Ashley Moran became proactive and decided it was time his company was brought up to date with the current digital work flows, which all the projects they were working on or tendering for now required.

The need involved getting away from paper plans and move to working with digital drawings and designs, so he invested in capable drafting personnel and necessary design software. He also saw that in order to work with such digital data it must be usable in the field as well as the office. So, for this need he began to investigate a solution that would allow digital design data to be used for layout and check measurements in the field. Several non-negotiable factors which were to heavily influence the decision-making process included that the field software and hardware must be comprehensive enough to manage all their field tasks, yet it was imperative it should be simple enough that his current staff can use the technology with only minimal training.

After months of serious research and demonstrations from various suppliers, Ashley and his team decided that the iCON iCR70 from Leica Geosystems was to be the preferred option. The iCR70 allows you to move from traditional analogue layout methods, such as tapes, plumb bobs and string line to modern digital layout methods. This intuitive and user friendly technology speeds up the layout process and because it’s a one-man operation it also frees up manpower to help on other site tasks. As Ashley Moran stated, “Our investment in the iCON technology has seen a far more accurate and faster layout process in all aspects of plumbing and draining. It reduced rework and also provided our clients with the confidence that we got it right the first time.”

Ashley also likes the idea that any iCON technology can be updated when needed to be adapted to 3D machine control solutions for excavators or graders.

However, one of the overriding reasons Ashmor decided to use the iCON ICR70 was the level of support and training offered and provided by C.R.Kennedy. Ashley Moran stated they had already decided on a competing brands product at a lower cost, but it “was the level of support and ongoing support up to this day” that made Ashmor go with the iCON solution.

The benefits are the speed and accuracy of the information being provided by the iCON ICR70. Information is key, and as Ashmor has said: “Embrace the technology because it’s not going anywhere.”
