Symal has been chosen as the principal contractor for Stage 1 of the Princes Freeway Interchanges Upgrade, marking the company’s first freeway project.
The project will provide infrastructure upgrades to the Pakenham community and surrounding areas, and is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce bottlenecks, and improve safety for all road users. More walking and cycling options to the town centre will also be delivered as part of the project.
Symal Infrastructure General Manager Matthew Gurney said that the business was thrilled to be working with Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) once again to deliver much-needed road upgrades.
“This is our third MRPV contract awarded under the Project Delivery Approach (PDA) model, following the successful delivery of the Hallam North and Heatherton Road Upgrade and continuing Narre Warren North Road Upgrade – a testament to our self-performing capability and high-quality delivery of infrastructure projects for Victoria’s Big Build,” Gurney said.
Symal’s team at the Pakenham site has grown to around 200 people, who have been working collaboratively with MRPV and local contractors to deliver the project.
Stage 1 of the project is due for completion in mid-2025.
