Pickles 2023: In the rear-view

The Pickles team reflects on the biggest and best Pickles Industrial sales of the year.

Pickles Industrial has had a front-row seat to the rollercoaster of used market prices throughout 2023. With the economy impacting the majority of Australian businesses, Pickles has championed the way forward for companies looking to offload unused assets to recoup capital or free up funds to invest in new equipment.

While the Australian market continues to fluctuate month to month, Pickles is proud to stand steadfast in the midst of change to help vendors and buyers alike to benefit from the circulating quality used assets.

As we celebrate the end of another interesting year in the industrial sector, we’ve collated our biggest sales of 2023. Check out some of the huge — and sometimes business-saving — sales that Pickles hosted over the last year, proving for another year that we can deliver valuable services to Australian businesses, no matter the market conditions.

The Major Transport & Logistics Fleet Re-alignment Sale accounted for more than $8.7 million in total sales.

Blowout sale of the year:

Major Transport & Logistics Fleet Re-alignment Sale

Held at the start of 2023, the Major Transport & Logistics Fleet Re-alignment Sale consisted of four huge online auctions. The February sale featured a range of drop and double-deck curtainside, dry pan and straight deck curtainside trailers, along with a variety of prime mover trucks.

Buyers flocked in droves to bid on assets from Kenworth, Western Star, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and Scania, all with fleet servicing, and some with replaced engines. With 40+ prime movers and 100+ trailers offered, the sale kicked the year off with a bang and resulted in becoming Industrial’s biggest sales blowout with more than $8.7 million+ in total sales.

The Cleveland Freightlines Business Closure sale featured a wide range of well-maintained trucks and trailers.

Best clearance rates:

Cleveland Freightlines Business Closure and Graham Quarries Retirement Sale

Interestingly, Pickles Industrial’s 2023 auctions with the highest clearance rates were both end-of-business sales. The success of both these sales was unsurprising, as both occurred early in 2023 when new asset stock was still extremely low. This meant many desperate buyers were keen to spend big to get ahold of the assets they needed, using whatever means necessary. Both sales were held in February 2023, and all stock was sold at both sales, resulting in 100 per cent clearance rates.

The Cleveland Freightlines Business Closure sale featured a wide range of well-maintained trucks and trailers, with bidding open to anyone in Australia using Pickles Online. At the same time, the Graham Quarries Retirement Sale was also underway, with a large variety of quarry machinery — including wheel loaders, dozers, and crushing and screening machinery — all on offer.

The Tolsaf Cranes Business Closure sale generated 1.2 million impressions across a range of marketing channels.

Best niche sales:

End of Lease Nut Harvesting Equipment Auction and End of Lease Vineyard Plant & Equipment Disposal

For businesses with unique equipment fleets, it can be daunting to offload large numbers of niche assets. Luckily, Pickles has dedicated industry experts across Australia to help get asset listings in front of the best buyer demographics.

For the End of Lease Nut Harvesting Equipment Auction, this resulted in more than $3.3 million+ in total sales, and for the End of Lease Vineyard Plant & Equipment Disposal, over $1.2 million.

Pickles’ industry experts helped the End of Lease Vineyard Plant & Equipment Disposal auction clear $1.2 million.

Honourable mentions:

National Civil Earthmoving, Crushing, Screening & Quarry Sale and Online Stock Trailer & Prime Mover Auction

2023 was the year of vendor satisfaction, with asset prices effectively helping businesses transition to new fleets, or to retirement. With Pickles achieving gross industrial sales exceeding $686 million, the year can be described as just as successful as it was explosive.

As another year looms on the horizon, Pickles is gearing up to help guide the next round of businesses and buyers seeking advantageous results.
