New JCB 5CX backhoe perfect for the big jobs

With a bigger bucket and extended reach and dig depth, JCB’s newest backhoe loader combines the productivity of a dedicated front end loader and excavator in a single machine.

The new 5CX boasts a standard 1.4m³ shovel and a 6.51m dig depth and 7.1m reach offering an unprecedented working range.

“With these enhanced specs, the 5CX really competes with dedicated, specialised loaders and excavators, with the convenience of a single unit. It’s ideally suited to councils and contractors who need a highly productive machine that can handle the big jobs,” said Glenn McLeod, Product Manager Backhoe Loaders for JCB Construction Equipment Australia.

“The new model features the same powerful and efficient driveline as the 4CX, with class-leading efficiency and low running costs, including excellent fuel economy. The powerful 74.2 kW Dieselmax engine, delivers an average fuel saving of up to 16%, plus lower emissions and noise levels.

“With high ground clearance and four equal-sized wheels like a wheeled loader, the 5CX can tackle very challenging terrain.”

Like the 4CX, the new model features JCB Eco-Road technology, designed to provide the highest levels of efficiency and productivity when roading.

“Eco-Road features JCB’s patented Torque-Lock technology, the world’s first lock-up torque converter fitted to a backhoe loader, this combined with the exclusive 6 speed automatic transmission significantly reduces fuel consumption while increasing both road speed to a class leading 50kmh and extending the working area.

“The 5CX also features a closed centre large capacity 165 litre per minute variable flow hydraulic pump with a system pressure of 251 bar offers class leading hydraulic horsepower which is vital for attacking the big jobs and providing sufficient power to the vast array of attachments that are available.

Operator comfort is an important consideration in all JCB machines, including the 5CX, which offers the exclusive patented in seat servo controls which allows the operator unprecedented ergonomic advantages preventing neck and back strain associated with conventional fixed controls at the rear.

A top of the range heated air suspension seat is standard to rubber mounting and isolation to reduce noise and vibration in the cab.

An LCD panel details machine hours, service information fuel, level and system warnings.

“A 360° view through tinted windows with large glass surface areas ensures exceptional visibility; we believe the 5CX firmly consolidates the JCB Backhoe range as the most diverse in terms of model sizes starting with the baby skid steer 1CX, the 4 wheel steer 2CX, and the world’s most popular backhoes being the 3CX/4CX ‘Glenn said’.

Already three of the new models have been purchased by councils in NSW and Queensland, and strong demand is also expected from Civil Contractors.
