MTS Hire & Sales makes waves with Bell Water Trucks

Lucas Cilia has trusted Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) for his heavy machinery needs for years, so he knew what to expect when HCA recommended adding Bell 2806E Water Trucks to his fleet.

Lucas Cilia started MTS Hire & Sales in 2010, initially as a side project while working in the marine and mining construction and demolition industry. Backed by his years of experience developed alongside his father, Lucas transitioned to full-time dedication to MTS in 2016.

Lucas (pictured) has enjoyed a productive relationship with HCA for more than a decade.

Since then, the company has evolved exponentially, growing its fleet from just two machines to more than 200 today.

“In 2016, I moved away from the marine industry and started full time for MTS, growing the business on the mining and civil side,” Lucas says. “I have been sole director, and have loved seeing the business grow from just two machines to where it is today, with more than 200 machines in our fleet.

“I’ve really enjoyed the journey, the challenge, and the diversity of the industry – no two days are the same.”

MTS has also diversified its operations into the manufacture of its own plant attachments, including a range of buckets, hydraulic attachments from grabs and grapples to 4-in-1 buckets and augers, and even more specialised attachments such as rippers, rakes, and specially developed buckets for rail sleepers.

A powerful engine and heavy-duty axles help the Bell 2806E stand up to Australia’s toughest conditions.

But according to Lucas, the core mission of the MTS business is to deliver premium, high-quality wet and dry hire plant and equipment.

“We pride ourselves in having Australia’s largest hire fleet of long-reach excavators, as well as wheel loaders, compact track loaders, skid steers, dozers, tipper trucks, compaction equipment, graders, GPS equipment, and much more,” he says.

“Our fleet of low-hour and late-model plant and equipment sets us apart. We have no old plant at all in our fleet. We also take pride in our premium field service team and our family business orientation – we look after our staff, so we feel like an extended family.”

Back to the water

One piece of equipment that Lucas says MTS has been getting great mileage out of recently is the Bell 2806E Water Truck – a specialised articulated dump truck designed for the transport and distribution of water for construction and mining applications.

The Bell 2806E’s reinforced steel tank boasts a 16,000-litre capacity.

Built with a 16,000-litre capacity reinforced steel tank, heavy-duty axles, Allison transmission, and powered by a 205kW (275hp) Mercedes Benz engine, the 2806E has been designed to withstand the sort of tough conditions Australia is notorious for.

“We have five Bell 2806E Water Trucks out in the field currently, and have another seven due to be delivered throughout the next 12 months,” he says. “These are used to assist with dust suppression for clients, who have so far been over the moon with the ease of operation and reliability of the trucks.”

Lucas’ decision to add the Bell brand to his fleet was largely based on his existing relationship with Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA), which is the sole distributor for the South African machinery manufacturer down under.

Having developed a strong preference for the power and reliability of Hitachi excavators and wheel loaders over his career, Lucas trusted HCA to steer him in the right direction with Bell as well – and he hasn’t looked back.

“I have worked closely with HCA since 2010,” he says. “The team there has supported and backed up my company throughout the years, and I wouldn’t have been able to deliver such a premium service to my clients without them in the background to assist at times needed.

“And since we’ve added the Bell trucks, HCA has continued to deliver exception service and support. I’d highly recommend them to the Australian industry over any other.”
