Machine Control

Leica Geosystems MC1: An all purpose machine control software platform

Slotting seamlessly into C.R. Kennedy’s broader portfolio of Leica Geosystems iCON products, the MC1 3D machine control software provides an all-purpose platform to guide and automate all heavy construction machines, including excavators, dozers, graders, wheel loaders and more.

The MC1 software works by comparing the design model to the actual position of the machine’s cutting edge (for instance, a bucket or blade edge), assisting the operator with machine positioning, automatically controlling the position of the cutting edge, and thereby increasing efficiency.

It is carried by the Leica MCP80 panel and MDS Series docking station, with the interchangeable 8-inch full-colour touchscreen panel having been designed to allow for operation across a range of machines, providing for added versatility on job sites.

In addition to this, it is also supported by the cloud-based Leica ConX productivity platform – a cloud-based collaboration tool via which users can visualise and share data – enabling more efficient management of heavy construction projects.

MC1 FUNCTIONS: EFFICIENT DATA HANDLING AND EASE OF USE
The MC1 software is designed to facilitate efficient data handling and ease of use, paving the way for more productive job site operations, and providing a solid platform from which operators can refine and adapt their specific machine control solutions as required. As advised by Leica, the MC1 software provides for:
• Improved data handling – simplified data handling, with it open to all standard design data types, enabling a flexible flow of data to support common workflows on a job site. With all construction site machinery, in addition to Leica’s field solution iCON site, running the same design data structure, no data conversion is required, enabling a seamless data transfer between machines, job site field units and the office.
• Drive down costs, boost efficiency – software design consistency across all heavy machine control applications reduces customer training requirements, with the same software platform capable of being used with different sensor configurations, improving scalability, while installers benefit from simplified installation and service processes.
• Simple and intuitive operation – an intuitive graphical interface – incorporating a customcentred design, which supports operators in getting the job done more efficiently and effectively – is uncluttered and features familiar symbols, helping operators focus on the important steps. Meanwhile, an intelligent licensing system enables the add-on of other machine solutions, providing users full flexibility.

MCP80 AND MC1: AN INTELLIGENT AND INTUITIVE COMBINATION
Leica has delivered an intelligent and intuitive hardware and software combination for the heavy construction industry, with its MC1 software forming part of its greater all-in-one machine control platform, consisting of the MCP80 panel and MDS series in-cabin docking stations, supporting multiple machines for heavy construction.

Simplified and connected solutions for increasing staff productivity on site and unifying design data for seamless workflows are essential to keep margin gains and generate profits, with Leica’s machine control solutions designed to underpin efficient operations.

Leica’s solution for heavy construction applications offers a unified hardware platform with a common software interface across its machine control portfolio. Interchangeable between several heavy construction machines, the MCP80 integrates into the common MC1 software platform, while ConX, the cloud-based and user-friendly productivity platform for increased project efficiency, rounds off Leica’s goal to achieve a digitised construction site.
