JCB Construction Equipment Australia (CEA) has added two new 5-tonne JCB excavators to its line-up: the ultra-durable 55Z-1 and the 48Z-1.
The new models share the durable design seen on the larger machines in JCB’s next generation compact excavator range, with 100 per cent steel bodywork and a sturdy four-plate dipper arm construction.
“These machines were designed with performance in mind, providing our customers with best-in-class return on investment,” said JCB CEA National Product Manager for Compact Equipment, Phil Withell.
The dig end is 100 per cent bushed, allowing for extended 500-hour greasing intervals, and it has been redesigned with a longer main boom and shorter dipper arm, which provide up to five per cent greater dump height for easier truck and site dumper loading.
The hydraulic system has also been upgraded to deliver nine per cent more bucket tear-out force and higher dipper arm tear-out force. They also include optional hydraulic or manual quickhitches that can be selected for faster attachment changeover.
“The design upgrades are all about boosting machine performance and productivity,” Phil said. “We’re seeing significant fuel savings compared to other brands on the market, especially on tonnes of material moved per litre of fuel consumed.”
When it comes to operator comfort, the new midis come with an improved cab, which is 18 per cent more spacious and offers up to 11 per cent more visibility.
“One of our biggest improvements with these midis is the adoption of a new display screen and control system, with an automotive style rotary controller, allowing easy access to a host of systems and information,” Phil said. “The new screen allows operators to customise their preferred information.”
“The operator can set auxiliary hydraulic flows for two separate attachments from the cab, while the menu mode button switches the rotary controller between throttle modes, including a one-touch idle function and menu mode.
The new 48Z and 55Z excavators are available in zero tail-swing configurations, offering concern-free manoeuvrability, especially in confined spaces,” he says.
“Tracked excavators have been part of the JCB manufacturing family for over 50 years.
Our latest midi excavators are quite simply the strongest and highest performing next generation of machines we’ve ever built.”
