Hitachi excavators: Demanding jobs demand efficiency

Meet the Hitachi ZX690LCH-7 and ZX890LCH-7 excavators: part of the company’s Zaxis-7 series, designed to deliver enhanced performance, efficiency, and operator comfort for demanding construction and mining applications.

Hitachi continues to push the boundaries of innovation in the construction and earth-moving industry with the release of the ZX690LCH-7, a heavy-duty excavator designed to deliver outstanding performance, fuel efficiency, and operator comfort.

This latest addition to the ZX-7 series embodies Hitachi’s commitment to advanced technology, reliability, and cost-effective operations, ensuring that contractors and fleet operators receive maximum productivity with lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

Power and performance

National Product Manager David Gallina said that at the heart of the ZX690LCH-7 was a robust 348 kW (ISO14396) engine that provides immense power to handle demanding job site conditions.

“Equipped with the HIOS-V hydraulic system, this machine offers improved fuel efficiency while maintaining high productivity,” he said.

“The advanced system optimises oil pressure loss, reducing fuel consumption without compromising on power.”

The ZX690LCH-7 also boasts an impressive operating weight range of 69,400–71,400 kg, ensuring stability and durability in tough environments. Its backhoe bucket capacity ranges from 2.9 to 4.0 m³, making it suitable for large-scale excavation and earth-moving tasks.

Operator comfort and control

Hitachi has redefined operator comfort in the ZX690LCH-7 with a newly designed pressurised cab that prioritises space, visibility, and ease of use.

The cabin features a synchronised motion system that links the seat and console, reducing operator fatigue during long working hours.

“Enhanced noise and vibration reduction technology, combined with a high-resolution anti-glare 8-inch monitor and an intuitive switch layout, ensures that operators experience superior comfort and control,” David said.

“Additional features such as an upgraded Bluetooth-integrated DAB+ radio, USB power supply, and user-friendly storage spaces further enhance the operator’s experience.

“For safety and convenience, the machine also comes with a 270-degree Aerial Angle bird’s-eye view camera system, providing a comprehensive view of the surroundings.”

Fuel efficiency and cost savings

One of the standout features of the ZX690LCH-7 is its improved fuel efficiency.

“Thanks to its Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system and advanced hydraulic technology, the machine achieves a 10 per cent reduction in fuel consumption in ECO mode compared to its predecessor,” David said.

“Operators can also switch between different modes to optimise performance and fuel economy, reducing operating costs significantly over time.”

With these innovations, contractors can expect to save approximately $17,670 per year in fuel costs when using the PWR mode, highlighting the long-term economic benefits of the ZX690LCH-7.

The bigger sister: ZX890LCH-7

For even greater power and performance, Hitachi offers the ZX890LCH-7, the bigger sister to the ZX690LCH-7.

With an impressive 382 kW (ISO14396) engine, an operating weight range of 85,100 – 86,600 kg, and a backhoe bucket capacity of 3.5 to 5.0 m³, this model is built for extreme workloads.

The ZX890LCH-7 shares the same operator-centric design, fuel-efficient systems, and safety features as the ZX690LCH-7 but delivers even greater capacity for high-demand applications, making it the perfect choice for large-scale projects that require maximum output.

Ideal applications

The Hitachi ZX690-7 is a versatile machine suited to a wide range of demanding applications, including:

  • Large-scale construction projects
  • Mining operations
  • Quarry work
  • Heavy-duty excavation

Making an impact

The Hitachi ZX690LCH-7 is a game-changer in the heavy excavator market, combining powerful performance, cutting-edge efficiency, and unmatched operator comfort.

“With its innovative design and capabilities, this model sets a new standard for excavation machinery,” David said. “And for those seeking even more power, the ZX890LCH-7 offers the ultimate solution for high-volume operations.

“The ZX-7 series ensures that every job is completed with precision, efficiency, and minimal downtime.”
