Hitachi excavators are preferred choice at Dixon Rock and Block

New South Wales based wholesaler Dixon Sand is a family-owned business, opening its doors in 1955 by its founder the late Ken Dixon. The operation and management of the business has been handed down to Ken’s son David Dixon. Dixon Sand supplies specialty sands to numerous sporting fields including Telstra Stadium and The Sydney Cricket Ground.

Their work extends to golf courses and soil yards, with mortar sand being their biggest seller. Dixon Sand strives to produce the highest quality product while maintaining finest environmental practices.

Dixon Sand introduced specialised stone cutting into their sand production business several years ago. Due to their massive and continuous growth, the business ventured out and Dixon Rock and Block was created in 2020.

Also managed by David Dixon, this division specialises in the expert cutting of raw and finished blocks of renowned Australian sandstone and the supply of crushed sandstone through to large blocks for subdivision, retaining walls and general construction, from their Maroota operation.

Their centralised location in Maroota, New South Wales, sets Dixon Sand apart from the competition. Situated 60km from Sydney’s central business district enables the convenient supply of products to customers in the Sydney metropolitan areas.

Twenty-five pieces of machinery currently in the fleet and a team of 10 employees, Dixon Rock and Block is enjoying their market growth and complements their highly skilled operator’s and the reliability of their specialised cutting machinery.

Dixon Rock and Block have built a solid business relationship with Hitachi Construction Machinery (Australia) Pty Ltd (HCA) over the past years; during this time purchasing four Hitachi ZX360 excavators (3 x ZX360LCH-5 and 1 x ZX360LC-5) with a fifth Hitachi ZX360LCH-5 excavator on order and due for delivery early 2022.

The Hitachi excavators came with custom Wedgelock hitches to suit their existing attachments, which were built to the specifications of Dixon Rock and Block. Also featuring upgraded auxiliary hydraulics to work with the company’s custom rock saws and an upgraded operating weight and ROPS structure to increase stability and safety of the machine.

As a Reliable Solutions advocate, “HCA have lived up to its name delivering high quality, performance-driven robust excavators with little to no issues,” adds Jason Galea and Jayden Rejtano, Operation Managers at Dixon Rock and Block. Also adding, “Most of our work is cutting and breaking sandstone with large hydraulic rock saws and hydraulic hammers, which the Hitachi range of excavators handles extremely well.”

The smooth performance of the Hitachi ZX360 excavators, the spacious cab, along with the inclusion of a drink cooler and full HEPA filter air conditioning “have made these machines the preferred choice and most favoured amongst our operators,” comments Jason.

As well as having a great support group at the Hitachi Revesby branch providing parts and servicing of equipment, the team at Dixon Rock and Block are certain that if any issues do arise, it will be rectified on the same day thanks to HCA Sales Representative Anthony Brown and Customer Service Representative George Paradisis.

“Anthony and George are our first point of contact at Hitachi, both will go over and beyond, we can’t fault their service in anyway,” Brad Mackey, Operations Manager at Dixon Rock and Block.
